Finals Weekend Promises to be Full of Excitement

The FABL Senior Boy’s Finals are to be are to be held this weekend at the St Stephen’s Field House. This is our biggest event of the year where our four best teams get to showcase their talents with the two best playing for the championship followed by two All Star games and capped off with our first ever Elite Players All Stars vs The Coaches Dream Team at 9:00PM.

In the consolation game, Jones will take on Overcashier in a rematch or you could say first matchup of the season for these teams because Jones was forced to forfeit their only meeting during the regular season. Both teams havea chip on their shoulders and something to prove after disappointing semi final losses on Thursday evening. This battle for third place in the 16 team league is as unpredictable and should be full of all out fast breaks and plenty of scoring.

In the finals, Candland (10-5, 3-0 in the playoffs) take on Rubinstein (10-5, 3-0 in the playoffs) in a rematch of their week 15 meeting where Candland prevailed 48-37. Candland is led by senior and Elite All Star Matt Candland who averaged 8.23 ppg in the regular season but has been scoring over 12 a game in the playoffs. JB Brady, Bobby Summersgill, The Isales brothers Greg and Matt round out the top scorers on the team. Additionally, Bennett Candland has been coming up big in the playoffs as has been Brad Peach who made key free throws down the stretch in the semis. Ryan McGuire, big man Joseph Gadberry and Patrick Boyd round out a balanced lineup. This team is capable of putting up big numbers on offense which creating havoc on defense.

Rubinstein is led by senior and Elite All Star Trey Howes who averaged 14.08 points during the regular season. Howes, the team leader, has turned his focus toward making the players around him better with a pass first shoot secoand mentality that has turned big men Jake Northrop, Rob Panghorn and Tomy Flaherty into real offensive threats while taking the pressure off of Howes to score. Eric Rubinstein has provided solid play at the point while Connor Cole and Aaron Hildt have given quality minutes at the 2 and 3 spots. The Brenner brother, Tim and Andrew have set some devistating off ball picks to get players open and have been a force to be dealt with on defense. Rubinstein is playing their best ball of the season and we will see if it carries over into the finals.

After the finals, we will be giving out awards to coaches whose sons are graduating from high school as well as the 1st and 2nd place trophies and scoring awards. The all star games will immediately follow the awards culminating in the big game at 9:00 between the old men and the studs of the league. NO prediction coming from me on this one….none what so ever!!!

There will be no live blogging during the day on Saturday so you better get out and see the action for yourself.
