The bloggers on Instagram “FABL Primetime” called it the game of the year!!! We haven’t had an undefeated team since the 2016-17 season when the original “Skid Marks” finished the regular season without blemish on its way to a championship. Arriving at the gym to a buzzing crowd as Bolster put on a furious rally capped by a step back 3 pointer with a foul by Malachi Foreman that sent the crowd into a frenzy was a great way to get the place rocking!!!
By the way, Thomas won in overtime over Bolster 48-44 riding the Liam MacCarroll 21 point scoring wave to improve to 7-5 while Bolster, lead by Nolan Restivo’s 21 points fell to 6-7.
The night opened with Compofelice making a statement in beating the Sailors 42-35. Compofelice was led by Danny Nelson with 12 and Caden Compofelice (C squared) with 11. Grant Hinton had a game high 16 in a losing effort. Compofelice boasts the best record in the Wily Old Veterans Division at 8-4.
Because of the overtime, the teams with the two best records in the league, SOCOM (12-0) and Unc and Da Goon Squad (10-1) were chomping at the bit to get started, and it showed in the first quarter as scoring started with a frenzy. At the end of the 1st, SOCOM led 15-13. UDGS answered in the second quarter with some impressive defensive stops and took a 23-21 lead to the intermission. Then is typical fashion, SOCOM opened up on the pick team in the third quarter.
Nathan Fratelli sunk two 3 point shots down the stretch as the camo team….by the way I figured out the secret tom SOCOM’s success….you can’t cover what you can’t see….the camo uniforms are effective…outscored the Goons 15-5 to take a 36-28 lead into the final 9 minutes. This game was well in hand…..or was it?
In an effort that legends are made of, sophomores Shamar Berkley (7) and Jebediah Grissom (5) along with senior leader Charlie Hitzel (7) combined for 18 points to spearhead an 18-4 run to overtake the PREVIOUSLY undefeated SOCOM 46-40. That run included an unheard of 10 for 14 from the free throw line down the stretch. They did not give up one offensive rebound while holding their opponents to only 2 buckets. Free throws, rebounding and defense win championships….I’m just sayin’
Also, Derek Jones led all Goons scoring with a game high 12 points. Coach Wolfe’s SOCOM were led by Fratelli with 12, Tanner Kane with 8 and Christopher Trigger with 6. This supposed “finals preview” just sets the stage for another epic matchup in the final. Lets see what other teams have to say about that!!!
